Using email with your domain
Thank you
for using our online technical support features.
For setting
up your email program with active email addresses,
please refer to the "Setup" button in the menu system in
the upper left of this page.
For
information on how to administer your domain email
addresses, such as adding and removing email addresses,
please continue.
When Prolynx
Internet hosts your domain name, your account comes with
25 email addresses that come standard with your service.
This is expandable to more email addresses for a small
fee.
First you
must specify who will be your administrator for your
domain email. We will need to give at least one
email address administrative rights for your domain.
Once setup, anybody logging in with this email address
will have administrative right for editing your email
addresses.
To
administer your email addresses, go to
www.prolynx.com and click on "web mail" in the upper
right hand corner. You may save the pursuing page
to your favorites if you would like. This page
will have boxes to enter your "user id" which is the
administrators email address and for the password for
this account. Once logged in, the administrator
will have more options than a standard user of our web
mail. There are many features that can be used,
but this page will only discuss adding and removing
email addresses and alias email addresses.
Email address vs. Alias email address
An email
address in an address that you can receive email at and
from which you can send email from.
An alias
email address is nothing more than a forwarding address.
When an alias address is created you must specify an
email address to which you want the email to be forward
to. An alias address can have up to three
addresses to forward to before it becomes a list.
A "list" can include 1000's of email addresses and is an
optional add-on service that we can provide for a small
monthly fee.
Below you
will find screen captures for a bogus domain which we
are calling zzzlastdomain.com, with its administrator
being a user called zzz.
Creating an Email address
Go ahead and
login into our web mail server using your admin user
email address and password. Once logged in you
will see a similar window to the one below.

Find the
"Account Options..." drop-down list on the top
of the page and
select "User Administration." The following window
will appear.

This shows
that you have one user, "zzz" as an email address
currently. Of course yours will have different
user as this is only our sample domain and user.
To add an
email address, click the "Add" button on the right.
The following screen will appear.

The "User
ID:" is only the beginning part of the email address
that you wish to setup. Thus if you want "mstewart"
@YourDomain.com, you would simply enter mstewart
in this box. Entering the first name and last name
are optional. Now enter the password that you wish
to use and then confirm the password and then click the
"Save" button. Click "Go Back" on the pursuing
page and you will see your user added, like the screen
below.

From here,
you can add, display, modify, change a password and
delete and email address.
Creating an Alias address
You are
already
login into our web mail server using your admin user
email address and password. Click "Alias
Administration" from the drop-down menu at the top of
the page. The following screen will appear.
DO NOT REMOVE POSTMASTER, just leave it there.

If you want
to add an alias email address, click the "Add" button
and the following screen will appear.

In the above
example, we are creating an alias of "bubba" at our
bogus domain of zzzlastdomain.com. All we need to
do is add the alias of "bubba" and not the entire
address. Always use a "standard" alias type as
"group" will not work unless we enable this add-on
option for you. In the "Destination" box, you can
add up to three email addresses that you want you alias
to forward to. Each email address must be on its
own line. These email addresses can be any
Internet capable email address and do not have to be an
address at your domain name. Once you have added
your email addresses, click the "Save" button and the
click "Go back" on the next screen. Your alias
will be added such as the screen below.

PLEASE NOTE: An alias of “nobody” will create the
catch-all wildcard for non-existent emails for your
domain. So, the recipient that you create for “nobody”
will catch all of the email coming into your domain if
that address is not real. This is great for advertising
any email that you want, without actually setting up the
email address. The down-fall to this is that it also
catches ALL of the Spam sent to bogus addresses at your
domain name.
These are
the basics of adding email addresses and alias email
addresses. This is a common task that we felt that
we needed to address. Help for all other features
on the web mail can be found in the help file. If
you feel that we can improve this page, please let us
know.
